Other setups

  • A big ZIP comes in parts, like Pack.part1of2.zip. Download every part.
  • Unzip them into your BIOS folder. Put the files straight in it, not in a new folder.
  • Leave the ZIPs inside, like neogeo.zip, as they are.
  • A few ZIPs hold their own top folder. Their setup's page says where to unzip them.

No ZIP on a row: the command serves that setup. ZIPs are made for the setups most people download. Why?

The ZIPs come from the latest release. The command may install newer files.

Pick them here, and get the files and the command. Or run the command below and press c when it asks.

Pick the consoles on a computer. Copy them to the app.

  • RetroArch: Files app, On My iPhone > RetroArch, then RetroArch/system/ (docs, code).
  • Delta, for DS games: import bios7.bin, bios9.bin and firmware.bin in Settings, under Nintendo DS (code).
  • Provenance: share the file, then Copy to Provenance (docs).

A terminal is a window where you type commands.

Open the Start menu. Type PowerShell and open it. Paste the line. Press Enter.

PowerShell
irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Abdess/retrobios/main/install.ps1 | iex

On Batocera, Recalbox and other game systems, run it on the device. Your setup's page shows how.

The command asks what to install. Press Enter for everything.

What it asks
Enter) install everything
i) only what the installed cores read
c) choose systems, cores and regions
q) quit
Is it safe?
  • It checks each file before saving it.
  • It writes in your BIOS folder. For some emulators it also adds files to your save folder.
  • It never changes or deletes a game or a save.
  • It keeps any file it replaces in a retrobios-backup folder, next to your BIOS folder. --restore puts it back.

Read the script first

Check your folder later. Add --check. It changes nothing.

PowerShell
&([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Abdess/retrobios/main/install.ps1))) --check
Fill an SD card from a computer

Name your setup and the BIOS folder on the card. For RetroArch on a Nintendo Switch:

Linux, macOS:

Terminal
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Abdess/retrobios/main/install.sh | sh -s -- --platform retroarch --dest /path/to/sdcard/retroarch/cores/system

Windows (PowerShell, E: being the card):

PowerShell
&([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Abdess/retrobios/main/install.ps1))) --platform retroarch --dest E:\retroarch\cores\system
Copy the BIOS files from your old card

Plug the old card in and add --from with its folder. The BIOS files found there are copied, and the rest downloaded. The old card is only read.

Linux, macOS:

Terminal
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Abdess/retrobios/main/install.sh | sh -s -- --from /media/me/OLDCARD

Windows (PowerShell, E: being the old card):

PowerShell
&([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Abdess/retrobios/main/install.ps1))) --from E:\
